On the morning of September 23, 2017, the residents and business owners
in and around Main Street, Buckhannon, were shocked to find that sometime
during the night, vandals had once again targeted their beautiful town. This
time, the gorgeous flowers that adorn Main Street, were the target. The
flowers that hang next to Dairy Queen and flowers from a flower bed and pot
near Chase Bank had been torn from their roots and tossed about the sidewalk
and road.
Michala Miles, Buckhannon-Upshur High School student, said she thinks
the flowers all around our town are an important part of our community.
She feels that it was disrespectful and the vandals should be fined for
their destruction, and they made to replace the flowers. Taylor Black, B-U
student, added that having security cameras and more patrolling of the area
could have prevented this, and it would also keep it from happening again if
they were added soon.
