Taylor Swift’s new video shakes the media

On August 27th, 2017, Taylor Swift shook the world with the premiere of her music video “Look What You Made Me Do”, leaving everyone dazed and confused. The single was released almost a week prior to the music video, and the song itself got mainly positive reviews. Patty Miller said, “I liked it. You can tell she’s very salty about things. She’s ready for a change.” Tiffany Williams said it was a cool song and Tayler Sisk said it reminded her of the ‘too sexy for my shirt’ song.

Within the last few years, Taylor has been releasing phenomenal videos. Her music video “Bad Blood” broke multiple records, including the Vevo record for most views in 24 hours. Her music videos have been reaching views of epic proportions. “Bad Blood” has over 1.8 billion views, “Blank Space” has over 2.1 billion views, and “Shake It Off’ has over 2.3 billion views. Due to these numbers, people have come to expect great things from her and director Joseph Kahn. When people saw the video for “Look What You Made Me Do”, the reaction was mostly positive.

Patty had this to say about the video: “I think it’s one of the best music videos she’s ever made. Including ‘Bad Blood’, which was amazing.”

After the music video was released, many theories started to swirl around the internet. The bulk of them surrounded Taylor’s well-known feud with rapper and fashion designer, Kanye West. In July of 2016, Kim Kardashian released video footage of a conversation that Swift claimed never took place. Kim then proceeded to call Taylor a snake, which in pop culture means someone who you think is sincere and really nice, but then turns out to be a backstabber. They are people who act like your best friends, but who are the stark opposite.

Taylor Swift has a thing with the number 13; it’s her lucky number and she uses it in everything. There is a fan theory that Taylor is admitting to being the snake everyone thinks she is when she only has 12 snakes around her in the music video. Swift is the 13th snake. When asked about this theory, Tayler Sisk said, “If everyone is going to call you a snake, you might as well own it.”

With everything that went on with Kanye West, there is a lot of speculation as to whether or not Taylor was calling out West or ex-friend Katy Perry. Everyone’s opinion varies, but Tayler thinks, “It’s more evident to the uneducated person that she’s calling out Katy Perry, but if you look into the details, it’s Kanye.”

Even though Taylor was busy throwing shade at everyone else, she didn’t forget to throw shade at herself. At the end of the “LWYMMD” video, there’s a scene where she pokes fun at all the other versions of her that have been scrutinized by the media in the past. Taylor shows 15 different versions of herself in this clip. It is theorized that there is one for every track on her new album, “Reputation”, and that the Taylor on the back of the plane is the real Taylor watching all the others that were made up by the media.

Everyone has their personal favorite version of Taylor. Patty likes the new Taylor because “She’s a bit sassy and not as cotton candy clean,” while Tiffany prefers “the you belong with me” Taylor. Tayler’s favorite remains “country Taylor.” While Swift hasn’t officially commented on any of these theories, she has been liking things on Tumblr and will most likely make an official statement soon.
