Each year, Buckhannon-Upshur High School accepts foreign exchange
students from all over the world. This experience allows local students to learn
how to accept other people's point of view and helps the foreign students learn
about American culture. In the last few years, the school has had students from:
Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Russia, Romania, Tajikistan, etc. Alessandra
Badecu, among them, said, “My school had information about the exchange, so I looked
more into it on Facebook.”
Florian Cramer, from Germany, described how America is very
different from his home. “A lot of things, like food, driving, school, the way
your teachers teach, etc. It's just a totally different system.”
The foreign exchange program is an excellent opportunity for the
students elsewhere and at home, because it enriches culture, fosters
friendships otherwise impossible, and grants an inside view into other nations,
their people, and their customs.
