Could clubs be improved or changed?

The club period provided to students on Wednesdays after 3rd Block serves as a small window in the week where students can delight themselves and choose to do an activity they like, one that doesn’t necessarily have to be educational. Some students appreciate the club period, while other students don’t. Clubs are offered so that everyone has a time to enjoy his or herself and take a break during the sometimes-arduous week. There are several students of the opinion that the club period should be dropped, and if it were, students would be much happier. If clubs were to be erased, the time period they occupy would need to be replaced. The possible changes could be to advisory, enrichment, or a longer third or fourth period, although this one is highly unlikely. “Clubs are awesome and I don’t think they should be replaced. It gives students a chance to have hobbies and a bit of a break from a typical school day,” said Kristin Young.

There are few options as to what could be changed, and how exactly it would work out. One student, Dewaine Wagoner, was asked his opinion on how B-UHS could improve cubs. His reply was, “I think they shouldn’t have them anymore.”

Many students do like clubs. They appreciate the break and the chance to do something they enjoy. There will always be different opinions, and not everyone will be pleased. When asked if she thought the administration would replace clubs and what they would be replaced with, Taylor Cain answered, “No, I do not think people would replace clubs with another class.” It is hard to please everyone, but most are happy with the break from work, and many more are simply happy to hang out with friends!

There are people who would rather have the club period as a time to learn, thinking, “I’m here to learn, so why not do it continually?” Not everyone likes breaks and pauses, and some would rather continuously work without breaks, citing that they learn better that way. Other people need breaks so they can learn.

The many different clubs offered at B-UHS provide time that many students find relaxing. Some students are only in their clubs because they want to hang out with friends. Kristin Young commented, “Students enjoy clubs because they give them the chance to be with friends and learn about their interests.”

Taylor Cain also stated, “Our school can offer dancing and gaming because everyone would enjoy that.”
